Fazenda Recanto
Fazenda Recanto is living history. The Magalhães Paiva family has grown coffee on this land since 1896, and the farm was earning awards as far back as the 1930s. The excellence never stopped. Recently, Fazenda Recanto won the Rainforest Alliance’s Cupping for Quality competition — proof that five generations later, the family still sets the bar.
About Fazenda Recanto
The farm sits at 1,100 meters in Sul de Minas, one of Brazil’s classic coffee regions. Sustainability runs deep here. In 2006, Recanto became one of the first farms in Brazil to earn Rainforest Alliance certification. Moreover, more than a third of the property is protected as a natural preserve. For this lot, the family grew Arara, a modern cultivar celebrated for sweetness and clean cups. Then the cherries dried whole in the sun, letting slow fermentation inside the fruit build depth and sweetness.
What’s in the Cup
Expect a comforting core of chocolate and caramel, brightened by notes of red fruits. The sweetness is generous, and the balance is what you would hope for from 130 years of practice. In short, it is a classic Brazilian cup with just enough fruit to keep things interesting. Consequently, this coffee rewards unhurried brewing. Try it as a pour-over or drip, where its balance shows best. For filter methods, start with a 1:16 ratio and adjust to taste.
