Fazenda Araras

Fazenda Araras won the first-ever Doce Cerrado Mineiro Award, which honors the sweetest coffee from each cooperative in the region. One sip explains why. Grower Livian Carneiro’s natural Mundo Novo showcases the intense sweetness the Cerrado is known for — and then takes it a step further.

About the Farm — Fazenda Araras

Named for the macaws — araras in Portuguese — that color the skies of rural Brazil, Fazenda Araras sits in the Cerrado Mineiro, Brazil’s first Denomination of Origin coffee region. Here, rainy summers and long, dry winters create ideal conditions for ripening and drying. Carneiro grows Mundo Novo, a classic Brazilian cultivar prized for its body and natural sweetness. Afterward, the cherries dry whole in the sun, and the slow fermentation inside the fruit concentrates the sugars that define this cup.

What’s in the Cup

Expect layers of caramelized sugar, honey, and sweet almonds, carried by a syrupy body that lingers long after the last sip. The sweetness is the story here, yet the cup stays clean and balanced rather than heavy. Consequently, it makes a luxurious pour-over, a dessert-like French press, and an espresso with remarkable natural sweetness. It also shines iced, where the honeyed sweetness really pops. It needs no sugar — the farm already handled that. For filter brewing, start with a 1:16 ratio and adjust to taste.
