Gil César de Melo
Fazenda Espigão do Palmital
Fazenda Espigão do Palmital is a Designation of Origin microlot located in the region of Cerrado Mineiro. Born and raised on his grandfather’s coffee farm, Gil has continued his family’s tradition of coffee cultivation for over 30 years and his lot has come to stand out for its floral aroma and raspberry flavor.
In 1995 he planted his first 6 hectares and over the years he has expanded the area and sought to invest in quality. The characteristics of Cerrado Mineiro terroir and the rigorous post-harvest processes are Gil’s secret to high quality coffees.
The Cerrado Mineiro Region is a world recognized high quality coffee producing origin – the first “Designation of Origin” in Brazil, located in northwest of Minas Gerais State.
To achieve the Federation’s official Origin and Quality Certification, a coffee must meet eight requirements, including the geographic boundary, minimum elevation, storage standards, a signed statement of responsibility by the producer, and a minimum Specialty Coffee Association quality score of 80.
