Família Guimarães

This beautiful Arara microlot from long-time Casa Brasil partners, the Guimarães family, earned 2nd place in the Pulped Natural category at the 2024–2025 edition of the prestigious Prêmio Cerrado Mineiro, with an impressive score of 89.35 points. The award is one of many the family has earned over the years, and it reflects their precise, quality-driven approach to specialty coffee. It shows in every bag of Família Guimarães.

About Família Guimarães

The Guimarães family farms in the Cerrado Mineiro, Brazil’s first Denomination of Origin coffee region, where rainy summers and long, dry winters create ideal ripening conditions. We have worked with the family for years, and their lots keep earning podium finishes at the region’s top competitions. For this microlot, they grew Arara — a modern Brazilian cultivar celebrated for its sweetness and bright, clean cups — and processed it as a pulped natural. The skin comes off the cherry, but the beans dry coated in the fruit’s sweet mucilage. Consequently, the coffee keeps a natural’s sweetness while gaining a washed coffee’s clarity.

What’s in the Cup

Expect a sweet, balanced, and vibrant cup that exemplifies the very best of the Cerrado Mineiro. The sweetness leads, the acidity stays lively but polite, and the finish is clean and inviting. In short, Família Guimarães is a competition coffee you could happily drink every day. It shines as a pour-over, where all that clarity comes forward, and it makes a bright, sweet espresso too. For filter brewing, start with a 1:16 ratio and adjust to taste.
