Norte Pioneiro do Paraná

Norte Pioneiro do Paraná is one of the few coffee-growing regions in the world located outside the tropics, giving it four distinct seasons that are rare in coffee cultivation. These seasonal shifts present unique challenges, from cooler winters to variable rainfall, but they also allow beans to develop slowly and evenly, producing singular flavors not found elsewhere. The region spans 45 municipalities over 155,000 hectares, with altitudes from 500 to 900 meters and fertile soils that, together with cooler temperatures, support high-quality coffee production.

Coffees from Norte Pioneiro do Paraná are chocolatey and creamy, with light citric notes and a nuanced, balanced body. While Paraná produces less than three percent of Brazil’s total coffee today, the region has a rich history and has experienced a resurgence of quality-focused cultivation in recent decades, supported by research institutions and recognized through a Geographic Indication established in 2012. The combination of its unique climate, careful growing practices, and fertile soils gives Norte Pioneiro coffees a distinctive character that stands out even among Brazil’s renowned origins.
