Poco Java
Poco Java is our Brazilian version of Mokha Java, the world’s oldest coffee blend. The original married Yemeni Mokha’s wild fruit with Indonesian Java’s earthy depth. Ours recreates that legendary flavor pairing with Brazilian coffee. The result is a full-bodied fusion of brandy-like sweetness and bittersweet chocolate, with notes of earth and red fruit.
The Story Behind Poco Java
Mokha Java dates back centuries, to the first days of the global coffee trade. Sailors blended beans from the port of Mokha in Yemen with beans from the island of Java, and the world’s first great blend was born. Poco Java chases that same beloved contrast — wine-like fruit on one side, earthy chocolate depth on the other — in a single Brazilian cup. Meanwhile, a balanced medium roast ties the two sides together, so neither ever shouts over the other. Few blends carry this much history in the name alone. In short, it is a history lesson you can drink.
What’s in the Cup
Bittersweet chocolate arrives first, rich and grounding. Next, red fruit lifts the middle with a brandy-like sweetness. Finally, an earthy depth carries the finish, long and warming. Consequently, Poco Java rewards slow sipping: it makes a powerful French press, a rich drip, and an espresso with old-school gravitas. It also stands up beautifully to milk. On cold mornings, few coffees feel this sturdy. For filter brewing, start with a 1:16 ratio and adjust to taste.
