FRANCISCO GUIMARÃES
FAZENDA LAVRINHA
Francisco Guimarães is a fifth generation Mineiro. His ancestors arrived in Brazil from Portugal at the end of the 18th century and began working in agriculture a generation later, primarily raising cattle. Over the years, the family business has grown in both size and diversity and in 2010 they began growing coffee on a portion of one of their farms, Fazenda Lavrinha near Serra do Salitre.
Francisco and his brothers, Ricardo and Roderio, have made it their mission to carry on their family’s rich agricultural legacy in the Cerrado Mineiro and have chosen to focus on specialty coffee as a means of highlighting the region’s unique terroir and flavor profiles. They have also traveled the world to build relationships across the supply chain and to better understand the demands of specialty coffee consumers. In fact, we first met Francisco during one of his visits to Austin where he spent a summer studying English and learning about the Texas coffee scene. In 2018, we were among the first roasters to bring Guimarães family coffees to the U.S. and we are proud to continue our partnership for the 2019/20 harvest.
